Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will visit Chennai on Thursday to chair a regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs and ECINET and interact with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The day-long conference, organised by the Election Commission of India in coordination with the Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer, will be held under the theme “Learn Democracy, Lead Democracy”. It aims to strengthen voter awareness, promote constitutional awareness among future voters and encourage the use of digital platforms in election-related work.
Gyanesh Kumar will interact with around 500 BLOs in the morning and hear their views on voter enrolment, electoral roll verification and field-level work.
Around 1,000 delegates, including students, educators and heads of institutions representing 300 schools, 75 colleges and 25 universities from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, are expected to participate.
Deputy Election Commissioner Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, Director General (Media) Ashish Goyal and Director General (Information Technology) Seema Khanna are among the senior Election Commission officials participating in the conference.
In the afternoon, Gyanesh Kumar will address students and educators on democratic participation and electoral awareness, followed by a question-and-answer session.
The conference will also feature demonstrations of voter registration, polling and counting procedures, interactive exhibition panels, election quizzes and demonstrations of technology platforms, including ELC 2.0 and the unified ECINET mobile application.
