Chief Minister Vijay on Friday held discussions with senior executives of leading automobile manufacturers and office-bearers of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), urging them to continue investing in Tamil Nadu and assuring full government support for industrial expansion projects.
The consultations were held at the Secretariat as part of a series of review meetings being conducted by the Chief Minister with officials and industry representatives after assuming office on May 10.
Senior executives of several automobile companies, including BMW and Yamaha Motor India, participated in the meeting. Discussions focused on the contribution of industries to Tamil Nadu’s economy, measures to strengthen the manufacturing sector, electric vehicle production, exports and opportunities for new investments in the State.
Chief Minister Vijay appreciated the role of automobile companies in the industrial development of Tamil Nadu and assured that the State government would extend full cooperation for expansion and investment plans.
BMW India Managing Director Thomas Dose and Yamaha Motor India Group Chairman Itaru Otani separately met the Chief Minister and discussed industrial investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister appealed to them to continue expanding their investments in the State.
Officials said the discussions could pave the way for fresh investments in the automobile and manufacturing sectors.
The Chief Minister also met Confederation of Indian Industry Southern Region Chairman P. Ravichandran, Tamil Nadu State Council Chairman C. Devarajan, Vice-Chairman J. Murugavel and former chairman M. Ponnuswami.
During the meeting, discussions were held on industrial growth, investment promotion, policy support, ease of doing business, economic stability and industrial infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister assured the CII representatives that their suggestions and demands would be examined and appropriate action taken.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Vijay also chaired a review meeting of the Agriculture and Water Resources Departments at the Secretariat.
The meeting reviewed the water storage levels in major reservoirs, including the Mettur Dam, and preparedness for Kuruvai cultivation in the delta districts. Discussions were also held on water release for irrigation, steps to increase cultivation and implementation of agriculture budget schemes.
Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Agriculture Department Secretary V. Dakshinamoorthy, Water Resources Department Secretary J. Jayakanthan and senior officials attended the meeting.
