DMK MP T.R. Balu has written to the Election Commission seeking reversal of the transfer of Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Muruganantham, terming the move arbitrary and unjustified.
In his letter, Balu stated that there were no logical or valid reasons for replacing the Chief Secretary, especially in the absence of any complaints. He said the DMK strongly condemns the decision and urged that Muruganantham be reinstated.
He further expressed concern that such changes during the election period could disrupt administrative functioning in the State, even as the electoral process is underway.
Balu also raised objections to the appointment of Sandeep Mittal as head of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, questioning the rationale behind the decision and alleging political bias.
He argued that the anti-corruption body has no direct role in election conduct and questioned the Election Commission’s authority to transfer or appoint officials not linked to poll duties.
The DMK leader further alleged that similar actions were not taken in BJP-ruled States despite complaints, and questioned why such interventions were seen primarily in opposition-ruled States like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal.
He urged the Election Commission to act impartially and review its decisions in the interest of fair administration during the election period.
