Festive vibes filled the cool Nilgiri air as Hotel Gem Park, a popular four-star destination in Ooty, hosted its Grand Christmas Cake Mixing Ceremony today, blending over 100 kilograms of premium ingredients including cashews, raisins, pistachios, almonds, cherries, dates, and select liquor — setting the stage for the holiday season.Christmas and cakes go hand in hand — from Black Forest and Plum to Chocolate and Tiramisu. Yet, the traditional cake mixing that takes place weeks before Christmas continues to carry a legacy of warmth, togetherness, and anticipation.

Originating in 17th-century Europe, the ceremony was once a harvest ritual symbolizing gratitude and hope for prosperity. Reviving this timeless custom, Hotel Gem Park brought the festive tradition to life with grandeur and community spirit.
During the event, guests and staff together soaked the dry fruits in rich liquor — a process that deepens flavour and aroma as the mix matures until Christmas. The vibrant sight and fragrance turned the ceremony into a feast for the senses.
Adding to the cheer, District Collector Ms. Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and Superintendent of Police Ms. N. S. Nisha graced the occasion, joining tourists and hotel employees in the celebration.
The heady aroma of the mix promised the delicious taste of the season ahead — a perfect prelude to Christmas joy in the Queen of
Hills.
