Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Sunday announced that the Athupalam flyover in Coimbatore will be named after Bharat Ratna awardee C. Subramaniam, honouring his contribution to the nation.
In a post on social media, the Chief Minister said it was a matter of pride to recognise and honour leaders who earned the respect of the people and rendered outstanding service to the country, even if their political paths and ideologies differed.
Recalling the contributions of C. Subramaniam, who served as a Union Minister and played a pivotal role in spearheading the Green Revolution that helped eradicate hunger in the country, the Chief Minister said his legacy deserved wider recognition.
He stated that the decision to name the flyover as “Subramaniam Flyover” was taken in response to a request made by industrialist and educationist Dr. P. K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, with the objective of commemorating the former Union Minister’s enduring contributions.
Describing the announcement as a moment of pride, the Chief Minister said the naming of the Athupalam flyover would serve as a lasting tribute to C. Subramaniam’s role in nation-building and his service to the people.
