CM Stalin celebrates defeat of Delimitation Bill with Firecrackers

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the defeat of key bills introduced by the Union Government in the Lok Sabha by bursting firecrackers and distributing sweets during his election campaign in Dindigul and Theni districts.
While travelling to campaign events ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Stalin expressed his satisfaction over the outcome by interacting with party workers and marking the moment with celebrations.
The Union Government had convened a special session to introduce and pass three major legislations, including the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill proposing 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies from 2029, along with a proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats.
Voting on the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill and the Constituency Delimitation Bill took place on April 17 amid strong opposition from several parties. A total of 528 out of 534 Members of Parliament participated in the session.
Of those, 298 members voted in favour of the bills, while 230 voted against. However, the bills failed to secure the required majority for passage in the Lok Sabha.
The development triggered reactions from various political leaders, with Stalin terming it a significant outcome during his campaign trail.
