CM Stalin yesterday spearheaded a major educational initiative by releasing 26 new books under various categories of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation and inaugurating 146 newly constructed library buildings across the state.
The new books include rare publications, patriotic works, Tamil Nadu history volumes by senior historians, biographies of century-old personalities, classical texts, and projects such as the Muthamil Scholar Translation and Ilandhalir Literature series.
As part of the state budget announcement, Rs 213.46 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade 821 public libraries. Of these, 90 have been set up by the Rural Development Department, 32 by the Directorate of Town Panchayats, and 20 by the Municipal Administration Department.
CM Stalin inaugurated libraries in Coimbatore–Periyanaickenpalayam, Erode–Gobichettipalayam, Ariyalur–Jayankondam, and other districts, constructed at a total cost of Rs 39.33 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for a four-storey District Central Library in Kallakurichi, which will be built at a cost of Rs 4.01 crore.
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Education Secretary K. Chandramohan, Textbook Corporation Chairman Dindigul I. Leoni, Managing Director Aarthi, Assistant Director Saravanan, Member-Secretary Usharani, Public Libraries Director Jayanthi, and Joint Director Ilango Chandrakumar were present at the event.
