Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday inspected the Chetpet Bio-CNG plant, which is being operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model on behalf of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
According to a government press release, Mr. Vijay ordered that the 6,150 tonnes of waste generated daily in Chennai should be segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. He directed that biodegradable waste be converted into biogas and fertilizer, while plastics and other non-biodegradable waste should be utilised for road construction and as fuel for cement factories. Furthermore, Mr. Vijay has ordered that this initiative be implemented across Tamil Nadu within a stipulated time frame.
