Varun Muthuraj and Tarun Muthuraj, two brothers from Vadavalli in Coimbatore district, brought laurels to India and Tamil Nadu by winning three gold medals and one silver medal at the 18th SGADF Thailand International Championship-2026 held in Pattaya, Thailand, from July 28 to 31.
The championship was organised under the theme “Empowering Youth, Strengthening the Future,” with sportspersons from several countries competing in Silambam, Karate, Yoga, Football and Chess.
Varun Muthuraj won two gold medals in the Single Stick and Stick Fighting events. Tarun Muthuraj, a Class X student of a private school, secured a gold medal in the Stick Fighting event and a silver medal in the Surul Vaal event.
The outstanding performance of Varun Muthuraj and Tarun Muthuraj earned India three gold medals and one silver medal in the Silambam competition while showcasing Tamil Nadu’s traditional martial art on the international stage.
Their achievement has been widely appreciated by the public and sports enthusiasts, who have congratulated the brothers for making India and Tamil Nadu proud.
