A total of 15,328 people have benefited from 264 special medical camps conducted by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation over the past eight days as part of preventive measures against monsoon-related illnesses following recent heavy rainfall. The camps have been organised by the Corporation’s Public Health Department since October 23 in areas where rainwater had accumulated. Of the beneficiaries, 11,021 people received oral rehydration solution (ORS) and Kabasura Kudineer.
Fever was detected in 49 people, who were referred to government medical facilities for blood tests and further treatment. Medical teams comprising doctors, nurses and healthcare staff from the Corporation’s 33 urban primary health centres visited affected neighbourhoods to screen residents for fever and other illnesses and distribute medicines. Those requiring further investigation were referred to government hospitals. As part of preventive measures against waterborne diseases, including diarrhoea, typhoid, jaundice and leptospirosis, residents were advised to drink boiled and cooled water. Health inspectors also tested chlorine levels in drinking water to ensure its safety. Corporation sanitation workers carried out mass cleaning operations and sprayed disinfectants in the affected areas. Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, IAS, said the special medical camps would continue for another five days through the 33 urban primary health centres and urged residents to make use of the facilities.
