Coimbatore gang-rape case: police file 50-page chargesheet

A 50-page chargesheet has been filed against the three men arrested in the Coimbatore college student gang-rape case, and the investigation has also revealed their involvement in the murder of a worker.
The case relates to the abduction and gang rape of a college student who was speaking with her boyfriend in a car near the Coimbatore airport. The shocking incident triggered widespread outrage across Tamil
Nadu.
The Peelamedu police registered a case and launched an intense investigation. The three accused — Satish alias Karuppusamy, his brother Karthik alias Kaleeswaran, and Guna alias Thavasi — were later shot in the leg and arrested when they attempted to escape police custody. After recovering from their injuries, they were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison. In a significant development, the police have now filed a 50-page chargesheet before the Coimbatore Mahila (Women’s) Additional Sessions Court presided over by Judge Sindhu.
Along with the main chargesheet, an additional 400 pages of supporting documents have been submitted. The chargesheet lists Karuppusamy as the first accused, Karthik as the second accused, and Thavasi as the third accused. The case has been registered under 13 sections of law, covering offences related to kidnapping, rape, criminal intimidation, and other serious crimes. The document also details the timeline of the crime, evidence collected by the police, witness statements, and the confessions of the accused. It further links the trio to the murder of a worker reported earlier, expanding the scope of the investigation. Police sources say more developments are expected as the case progresses in court.
