Coimbatore Semmozhi Poonga Entry Fee Fixed

The Semmozhi Poonga, also known as the Classical Language Park, established on the 45-acre premises of the former Central Prison complex in Gandhipuram, will be opened to the public from December 1. The entry fee structure for visitors has now been finalised.

The first phase of the park, developed at a cost of Rs 208.50 crore, was inaugurated yesterday by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The project marks the transformation of a historic prison site into a major ecological and cultural landmark for the city.

The park features 23 themed gardens, including herbal, flower, water and shade gardens. A dedicated section showcases trees mentioned in Sangam literature, while sculptures of the Kadai Ezhu Vallalgal add cultural significance to the landscape. Walkways and landscaped areas have been designed to provide a calm and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Officials said the design took inspiration from world-renowned botanical gardens, with expert teams studying international models before execution. Modern amenities, including water conservation structures and transport options for senior citizens and persons with disabilities, have also been added.

The entry fee for adults has been fixed at Rs 15 and for children at Rs 5. Permission for video cameras will cost Rs 50. Walking passes have been priced at Rs 100 per month and Rs 1,000 per year. For film shooting, the daily charge will be Rs 25,000, while short film shooting will cost Rs 2,000 per day.

Authorities said the fee structure will be placed before the council meeting on November 28 and implemented after approval.
