The “Thooimaiye Sevai” awareness rally, aimed at promoting cleanliness and hygiene, was inaugurated yesterday by District Collector K. Tharpagaraj, I.A.S. on behalf of Tiruvannamalai Corporation.
The rally, flagged off near the Gandhi statue, witnessed active participation from more than 200 students of Tiruvannamalai Municipal Girls’ Higher Secondary School. Holding placards and banners with cleanliness slogans, the students spread awareness among the public on the importance of hygiene and sanitation.
Addressing the gathering, Collector Tharpagaraj underscored the importance of citizen participation in maintaining a clean environment. “Cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility, and only through collective effort can we build a healthier society,” he said.
The rally began at the Gandhi statue and concluded at the Bay Tower of the iconic Annamalaiyar Temple.
Deputy Mayor Rajangam, Corporation Commissioner S. Selva Balaji, and senior officials from various government departments also took part in the event, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the cleanliness campaign.
The programme highlighted the role of youth in driving public awareness and stressed that sustained efforts under “Thooimaiye Sevai” are key to building cleaner, healthier communities.
