District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, conducted a detailed inspection of several ongoing development works in Pollachi taluk today, covering drinking water supply, tribal housing reconstruction, and wastewater management projects.
The inspection was part of efforts to ensure that all welfare and infrastructure schemes under the UTM 2024–2025 programme are implemented efficiently and within schedule. The Collector was accompanied by senior officials including I. Prakash, Assistant Director, Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board; R. Manoranjitham, Assistant Director (District Administration); Senthil, Executive Engineer; Jayakumar, Assistant Executive Engineer; Suba, Block Development Officer; Vasudevan, Tahsildar; and Executive Officers Suresh Kumar and Taj Nisha, among others.
Under the ₹5.92-crore joint drinking water project, sourced from the Aliyar River, six habitations in Thalakkarai, Kittasurampalayam, Rajakkapalayam, and Anupparpalayam panchayats in Pollachi North Union are being provided with safe drinking water. The Collector inspected the construction of new overhead water tanks at Bodhis Garden, Government Employees Colony, Sai Baba Colony, and Sri Sai Nagar. Similar tanks at Pasumpon Nagar and Mangaiyarkarasi Nagar have already been completed.
He also reviewed the progress of 22.9 km of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipelines, ranging from 140 mm to 63 mm in diameter, being laid from the Zamin Uthukuli Water Supply Station to the Alampalayam Ground Reservoir. The project aims to strengthen the region’s drinking water distribution system and prevent leakage.
Later, at Vettaikaranpudur in Anamalai taluk, the Collector inspected the reconstruction of 30 houses for members of the Hindu Malasar tribal community under the Chief Minister’s House Reconstruction Project. Each house, built at a cost of ₹4.5 lakh, is nearing completion. He examined the quality of materials and instructed officials to expedite completion within the stipulated time.
The Collector also inspected the solid waste and sludge treatment plant under construction at Odayakulam in Anamalai, developed at a cost of ₹13.65 crore. The plant will treat wastewater before releasing it into the Palar River or recycling it for agricultural use.
