Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Taniru on Saturday inspected basic amenities at Velleri Kombai tribal village under Kunjappanai Panchayat in Kotagiri taluk and assured steps to address long-pending demands of residents.
During the visit, the Collector reviewed the availability of houses, footpaths and road access in the village, which is home to former Padma Shri awardee Su. Krishnan. She interacted with tribal residents and heard grievances regarding infrastructure gaps.
Based on their representations, the Collector directed Revenue Department officials to identify suitable land at Ettikaud or Sundapatti for constructing 10 houses for families from Velleri Kombai under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana. Officials of the Rural Development Department were asked to examine feasibility and initiate necessary action.
She also instructed Highways Department officials to conduct a feasibility study for laying a road connecting Sundapatti and Ettikaud and to submit a detailed report.
Later, the Collector inspected Sundapatti tribal village, where she assured youth that sports equipment would be provided as requested. She directed officials to organise a special camp at the Sundapatti Anganwadi Centre on Sunday to facilitate issuance of Aadhaar cards, electronic family cards, community certificates and Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme cards for residents of Velleri Kombai and Sundapatti.
Coonoor Sub-Collector Sangeetha, Kotagiri Tahsildar Rajeshwari, Tribal Tahsildar Mahendra Kumar and Block Development Officers Sivakumar and Prakash were among those present during the inspection, according to an official release.
