A college student from the Kotwali area of Mathura district in Uttar Pradesh was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs 30 lakh, with the police arresting three persons, including a woman, and rescuing the victim safely.
According to police, the student left home for college but failed to return in the evening, prompting her parents to lodge a complaint at the Kotwali police station. Shortly thereafter, unidentified persons contacted the student’s father over the phone, claiming that they had kidnapped his daughter and demanding Rs 30 lakh for her release.
Based on technical surveillance, the police traced the origin of the ransom calls and reached the hideout of the accused. When the kidnappers realised that the police had surrounded the area, they attempted to flee. In the ensuing police operation, two of the accused were shot dead, officials said.
The kidnapped student was rescued unharmed and handed over to her parents. So far, three persons, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the case.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly planned the kidnapping after being influenced by a web series. Further investigation is under way.
