A community baby shower was organised by the Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department at Sri Krishna Gounder Kalyana Mandapam in Maniyakarampalayam, Ganapathy, Coimbatore, on Friday.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Backward Classes Welfare V. Sampath Kumar inaugurated the event and distributed traditional gift items and nutrition kits to 200 pregnant women from Selva Puram, Saibaba Colony, Ganapathy, Thondamuthur and Singanallur. He also served mixed rice to the beneficiaries.
The programme is being conducted to bring pregnant women together and provide them with traditional baby shower gifts, fruits and nutrition kits. The initiative aims to support the health of pregnant women and promote the well-being of newborn children.
Similar community baby shower programmes are scheduled in Kinathukadavu on September 25, Karamadai on September 26, Sulur and Sarkarsamakulam on September 28, Anaimalai, Pollachi North, Pollachi South, Valparai and Annur on September 29, Sulur on September 30, and Madukkarai and Perur on October 3. Around 1,800 pregnant women across Coimbatore district are expected to benefit from the programme.
Beneficiaries including Sunindhini, Divya and Sangeetha expressed gratitude for the initiative. They said the distribution of traditional gifts, fruits and nutrition kits and the opportunity to participate in the community celebration had brought them happiness and a sense of family togetherness.
