Corpn councillors want monthly zonal level meetings

Many councillors including zonal presidents PK Palanisamy, Kattusubbu and Kurinji Dandapani wanted zonal level meetings of councillors every month to attend people’s problems locally instead of waiting for the corporation level meeting. They said in the Tirupur, Salem and Coimbatore corporations, zonal level meetings were allowed regularly. Kurinji Dandapani said whenever asked the officials said the DPR (detailed project report) should be prepared. They even refused to replace the fused bulbs. Just Rs 15 lakh is needed to replace the fused bulbs in the city. He alongwith Councillor Nandagobu alleged over 70 unauthorized shops were functioning in the City Mofussil Bus stand and some persons were collecting toll from such shops illegally. The civic body should check it or legalise the toll collection norm to improve its income.
Zone 3 president Sasikumar questioned why compassionate ground norms were not properly followed in case of cleaning workers for many years. Similarly, promotions were not given to them.
He appealed to the civic body officials not to use the council meeting only to adopt resolutions. The councillors face lot of problems in the wards. No action was taken on the grievances raised by the councillors. So, the civic body should focus on such problems. Our views are not respected. The ward level meetings were held on Oct 27,28, and 29. But no officials visited the meetings. Who should bear the expenses for such meeting, he asked.
