Students from Coimbatore Corporation schools who excelled in the Judo martial arts competitions met Corporation Commissioner Mr. M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, IAS, today. He congratulated the achievers and motivated them to bring further laurels to the Corporation and the district.
As directed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, various welfare schemes are being carried out in the 148 corporation schools — including 83 primary, 37 middle, 11 high schools and 17 higher secondary schools. Alongside academics, special focus is given to sports such as Judo, Karate, Silambam and Taekwondo.
A free Judo training centre is functioning at Anuparpalayam Corporation Higher Secondary School, where trained coaches provide systematic coaching to students.
At the Chief Minister’s Cup 2025 Zonal-level Judo Competitions held in Tiruppur district on September 3 and 4, Mubaris of Anuparpalayam Corporation High School won gold, while Mohammed Noble of Kottayam Corporation Middle School bagged bronze. From Oppanakara Street Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School, Apsana (70 kg), Sultana Begum (63 kg) and Harivarsha (48 kg) secured silver medals, with Harivarsha also winning bronze.
In addition, Arunkumar of Anuparpalayam Corporation High School won silver at the State-level Judo Sub-Junior Championship held in Tiruvannamalai district.
The medal winners met the Commissioner today. Corporation Education Officer, education supervisors, school principals, coaches and parents were present on the occasion.
