A man and a woman, who reportedly continued their relationship even after marrying other partners, were found dead inside a lodge room at Vithura, a popular tourist destination near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
According to police, the couple had checked into the lodge a few days ago.
When the room was not vacated or cleaned for an extended period, lodge staff grew suspicious and forced open the door, discovering both occupants dead.
The police were immediately alerted.
The deceased were identified as Kappin (28), a native of Marayamuttom, and Manju (31), from Aryankode in Thiruvananthapuram district.
Their bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the two were in a relationship earlier and continued to meet even after getting married to different individuals.
After their families came to know about the relationship, both reportedly left their homes.
Missing complaints had earlier been registered at the Marayamuttom and Aryankode police
stations.
Police said initial findings indicate that the couple may have died by suicide following family opposition to their relationship.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem reports. Further investigation is under way.
