A tragic incident has shocked Dindigul district, where a woman and her relative-turned-lover died by suicide after jumping in front of a moving train.
Chandanakumar (44) of Govindapuram near Kanniwadi was married to Jayalakshmi (38), who had been living and working in Tiruppur for the past 15 years at a garment company. The couple have a daughter studying in college.
Some years ago, Kalimuthu (29), a maternal-relative of Chandanakumar from Salaiputhur near Ottanchathiram, came to Tiruppur for employment and stayed at Chandanakumar’s house. He also worked in the garment industry, alongside Jayalakshmi.
Living in the same house, Jayalakshmi and Kalimuthu developed a relationship, which soon grew into a love affair. When Chandanakumar discovered this, he confronted both of them, but they continued the relationship despite his objections.
Deeply distressed, Chandanakumar consumed poison four months ago and died. Even after his death, Kalimuthu continued living in the same house, causing tension within both families. Kalimuthu’s relatives also strongly condemned the affair.
Unable to bear mounting pressure and social shame, Jayalakshmi and Kalimuthu reportedly decided to end their lives. Two days ago, they travelled to Ottanchathiram and walked to the Aranganathapuram railway tracks. As a Coimbatore–Madurai train approached, the two jumped in front of it and were mutilated to death instantly.
Upon receiving information, the Palani Railway Police, led by Sub-Inspector Bhaskaran, rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies, and sent them to Dindigul Government Hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
