A shocking incident unfolded inside the Koppal Family Court premises when a 24-year-old man attempted to set his wife and in-laws on fire during a reconciliation session.
Chiranjeevi (24), a resident of Siddapur in Karatagi taluk of Koppal district, Karnataka, had married Roja (27) from Halekunta village 12 years after falling in love with her.
The couple, who have children, initially lived happily with the consent of both
families.
However, over time, Chiranjeevi allegedly became addicted to alcohol and frequently assaulted Roja out of suspicion.
Despite repeated efforts by both families to resolve the disputes, quarrels continued.
Unable to tolerate the harassment, Roja left him two months ago and moved to her parents’ house.
With the support of her family, she filed a divorce petition in the Koppal Family Court.
Angered upon learning this, Chiranjeevi later appeared before the court for an inquiry.
During the reconciliation process held in the court premises, Chiranjeevi suddenly took out a bottle of petrol and poured it on his father-in-law Sankarappa, mother-in-law Shanthamma, and wife Roja, attempting to set them ablaze.
Alert lawyers and court staff intervened swiftly and prevented a major tragedy.
The Suburban Police rushed to the spot and arrested Chiranjeevi. Based on a complaint lodged by Roja, police registered a case of attempt to murder and began further
interrogation.
The petrol attack attempt inside the court complex has caused widespread shock and alarm in the region.
