A horrifying incident unfolded in Odisha’s Jajpur district when a crocodile dragged away a woman bathing in the Kharasrota River, spreading fear among villagers along the riverbank.
The victim, identified as 57-year-old Chaudhamini from Kandia village near Panjapada under Dasarathpur block, was bathing in the river around 4 p.m. on Monday when the crocodile suddenly attacked and pulled her into deeper waters.
Shocked locals rushed to her aid, shouting and throwing objects in an attempt to drive the reptile away, but their efforts failed. They immediately informed the fire brigade and local police, who arrived at the spot and launched an extensive search and rescue operation.
However, officials said the search was hindered by repeated sightings of crocodiles in that stretch of the river. Rescue teams have warned residents not to enter the water until further notice.
A disturbing video of the attack, filmed by villagers, has since gone viral, prompting authorities to increase vigilance along the Kharasrota River, which flows through crocodile-prone zones of Jajpur and Kendrapara districts.
