Powerful sea waves surged over the coastal highway in Ennore, Chennai, amid rough sea conditions associated with Cyclone Arnab, startling motorists and overturning parked vehicles.
The cyclone, centred over the Bay of Bengal, has begun making landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh as a very severe cyclonic storm, according to the report. Its west-northwestward movement has caused rough sea conditions along the northern Chennai and Tiruvallur coastlines.
In Ennore, waves crossed the coastal rocks and surged onto the highway, surprising motorists.
The force of the waves overturned an auto-rickshaw and two-wheelers parked nearby. Residents recorded videos of the incident on their mobile phones.
Seawater also entered residential areas close to the shoreline, raising concerns among residents.
Following the rough sea conditions, traffic was suspended on Ennore Beach Road as a precautionary measure. Vehicles are being diverted through alternative routes to ensure public safety.
Motorists and residents in coastal areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow safety instructions issued by the authorities.
