In a daring act of dedication, Dr. Irfan Mollah, a government doctor from Nagrakata, risked his life to reach and treat people trapped in a landslide-hit area of Bamandanga in Darjeeling district.
Following last week’s torrential rains across Darjeeling and nearby districts, massive landslides and flash floods claimed over 28 lives and left several areas isolated. Among the worst affected was Bamandanga, where many residents were stranded in floodwaters and mud.
With roads cut off and rescue teams struggling to access the area, Dr. Irfan Mollah made a bold decision. He tied a rope across the flooded terrain and used it as a makeshift zipline to cross over to the stranded residents. Once on the other side, he provided immediate medical care and treated the injured, despite the continuing threat of landslides and rising water.
Onlookers filmed the courageous act, and the video quickly went viral on social media, drawing nationwide praise.
Netizens hailed Dr. Irfan as a real-life hero, commending his courage, quick thinking, and devotion to duty. Many lauded him as an inspiring example of a doctor who put humanity before personal safety in the face of disaster.
