A video of BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi accidentally falling into the Yamuna River during a cleanliness awareness campaign in Delhi has gone viral on social media, sparking sharp reactions and political jibes from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders.
The incident occurred during an event organized to highlight the BJP’s commitment to cleaning the Yamuna. Ravinder Singh Negi, the BJP MLA representing Patparganj constituency, was seen standing near the riverbank holding two bottles, attempting to collect water samples. Moments later, he lost his balance and fell into the river, leaving his supporters stunned before they pulled him out to safety.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, was reshared by AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha on X (formerly Twitter) with a sarcastic caption:
“It seems Mother Yamuna, dissatisfied with the politics of lies and deceit, has dragged the BJP MLA into her!”
The incident has reignited political sparring between the AAP and the BJP, especially as Chhath Puja celebrations are concluding on the banks of the Yamuna — an area that has long been at the centre of debate over river pollution.
Earlier, AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj had challenged Delhi BJP President Rekha Gupta to drink Yamuna water if she believed the river was clean. Bhardwaj had even arrived at the BJP office with a bottle of Yamuna water, demanding proof of the BJP’s claims.
With Negi’s video now viral, AAP leaders have used it as fresh political ammunition, accusing the BJP of “posing for publicity instead of cleaning the Yamuna.”
