Pakistan cricketer Usman Tariq has revealed that former India captain MS Dhoni played a key role in inspiring his return to professional cricket, saying a biographical film on the Indian legend transformed his mindset.
Pakistan have won two of their three matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup, with their only defeat coming against India. Amid the campaign, Tariq has grabbed attention for his distinctive bowling style, briefly pausing before delivering the ball and troubling opposition batters.
Recalling his journey, Tariq said he had stepped away from cricket and was working a regular job before finding renewed motivation.
“I came back to cricket only after watching the movie on MS Dhoni. After watching it, I felt our stories were similar. I was in a job and he too had worked before achieving success. It made me believe that ordinary people can create history,” he said.
“I am also a normal person. With hard work and determination, I can move forward on the same path. It was because of MS Dhoni that I returned to cricket,” he added.
His comments have since gone viral among cricket fans across the subcontinent.
