Diwali chit scam in Erode: Complaint to police

A female councilor of the DMK corporation who run a Diwali chit in Erode disappeared with her sons.

A group of women of Valayakkara Street, Erode, came to submit a petition to Erode SP Sujatha. They were instructed to submit it at the town police station.

In the petition, Erode Corporation, they alleged that 42nd Ward DMK, woman councilor Menaka – Natarajan couple and their sons Kathiresan and Babu started the weekly chit business  in October 2024. They have to pay the chit money for 52 weeks.
The amount is ranging from 100 to 1,000 rupees. Since the chit was completed on September 28, they went every day to ask for money.  But, the house is locked.

The mobile phone number they gave has also been switched off. Steps should be taken to recover the money. Appropriate action should be taken against them, they said.

During the investigation, it was found that the councilor had disappeared along with her sons and husband. Similarly, it seems that many more people have been cheated and have not been able to receive the money.
