The Puducherry unit of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam held a constituency-level party workers’ meeting at Kalapet on Friday as part of its ongoing organisational outreach ahead of the elections.
The meeting was presided over by constituency secretaries Sathyavel and Senthil. Leader of the Opposition in the Puducherry Assembly and DMK State Organiser R. Siva MLA led the proceedings.
Puducherry State Election In-charge and DMK Propaganda Secretary Jagathrakshakan MP addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Jagathrakshakan lauded the governance of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, describing it as a “golden rule” and asserting that the Tamil Nadu model of administration has drawn national attention.
Citing remarks attributed to senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, he said Stalin possesses the credentials to lead the INDIA bloc and that a similar model should be implemented in Puducherry.
Criticising the “Double Engine” government concept, he alleged that both the Union and Puducherry governments had failed to deliver on promises.
He referred to unfulfilled assurances on bringing back black money and generating employment, and claimed that the elected government in Puducherry lacked adequate powers.
He also accused the Centre of withholding funds to Tamil Nadu but said the State government had continued welfare measures, including financial assistance to families.
With elections approaching in Puducherry, he urged voters to support a Dravidian Model government to secure Statehood and improved development schemes. Raising local issues, he questioned the continued closure of the Lingareddipalayam Cooperative Sugar Mill and the AFT Mill, and expressed concern over law and order and public sector undertakings in the Union Territory. At a similar meeting held in Muthialpet constituency, DMK General Council member M. Prabhakaran spoke on the Dravidian Model of governance. Party functionaries and members of the public attended both meetings and expressed support.
DMK Chairman S.P. Sivakumar, MLAs K. Lakshminarayanan alias Kennedy, A. Sampath and Senthilkumar, General Council member Gopal Vadivel, Dr. Nithish, Nellithope Karthikeyan and other party leaders were present.
