Doctor booked for assaulting patient at Shimla Government Hospital

A doctor at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla has been booked for allegedly assaulting a patient who had come for treatment, triggering widespread outrage and unrest at the government-run medical institution.
The patient, hailing from the Nerwa area of Shimla district, had visited the hospital for an endoscopy procedure. After being advised to take rest post-examination, he lay down on a vacant bed in the ward.
Sources said a doctor on duty allegedly addressed the patient in a disrespectful manner, which led to a heated argument. The situation reportedly escalated, following which the doctor physically assaulted the patient.
The attack allegedly left the patient with a broken nose and heavy bleeding. The incident was recorded on a mobile phone by a bystander, and the video quickly went viral on social media, drawing strong public condemnation.
Based on a complaint lodged by the injured patient, the police have registered a case against the doctor involved and launched an investigation. Hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
