Dress Code Introduced for Devotees at Koniamman Temple

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department has introduced a dress code for devotees visiting the famous Koniamman Temple on Periyakadai Road in Coimbatore.
The Koniamman Temple attracts thousands of devotees not only from Coimbatore but also from various neighbouring districts. The temple’s annual chariot festival, usually held in the month of March, draws massive crowds, with devotees assembling in large numbers for darshan.
In recent times, complaints were received that some devotees were entering the temple in inappropriate attire, causing discomfort and embarrassment to other worshippers. Following this, the HR&CE Department has enforced a dress code and erected a notice board near the temple entrance outlining the guidelines.
According to temple officials, men are required to wear a vest or trousers along with a shirt, while women should wear a saree, salwar with dupatta, or a properly covered blouse with shawl. The temple staff have also been instructed to monitor and ensure that devotees strictly adhere to the prescribed dress code.
Officials clarified that the dress code was already in place earlier and that the newly installed notice board is meant to create better awareness among devotees.
