Eight persons, including a doctor, were arrested after police raided a late-night party at a star hotel in Kadavanthara near Kochi, where narcotic substances were allegedly being used.
Acting on a tip-off received by the Kochi City Police Commissioner, a team led by Kadavanthara Police Inspector Biju and Sub-Inspector Rajiv conducted the raid and surrounded the hotel premises.
During the Inspection, police seized around 10 grams of contraband, including cannabis, methamphetamine and narcotic pills. Preliminary investigation revealed that the drugs were brought for use at a private event held at the hotel.
Those arrested were identified as Shaji Fernando from Sangamukham in Thiruvananthapuram, Austin Jose from Malur, Rohit Nair, Gino Murali from Kodungallur, Akbar Shah from Nooranadu in Alappuzha, dentist Bensi Rawther, physiotherapist Syed Ali Fatima from Kollam and college student Amal Rauf. Three women are among the accused.
Police said the alleged supplier, Shon from Ernakulam, is absconding and efforts are on to trace him.
Officials are also probing whether similar drug use occurred during earlier events at the hotel. The incident has caused concern in the area.
