Public members and social activists have urged the police to take stringent action against motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol.
A Tata Ace driver allegedly drove the vehicle under the influence of alcohol on Mettupalayam Road in the Periyanaickenpalayam area of Coimbatore district yesterday evening. The vehicle reportedly rammed into around six expensive two-wheelers parked along the roadside, causing damage to the vehicles.
People at the spot detained the driver and conducted a test, which reportedly confirmed that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The owners of the damaged two-wheelers immediately alerted the police.
Police personnel who arrived at the scene checked the driver’s licence and the vehicle’s registration documents. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage showing the Tata Ace crashing into the parked motorcycles has emerged on social media, causing shock and concern among the public.
