A 43-year-old car driver died following a domestic quarrel at Manimangalam village near Mangalam in Tiruvannamalai district, after his estranged wife allegedly assaulted him during an argument.
Police said the deceased, Pachaiyappan, a resident of Jambodai village near Mangalam, was married to Durga, 30, about 12 years ago. The couple has two daughters.
Owing to frequent disputes, Durga had separated from her husband a few years ago and had been living at her mother’s house in Manimangalam village.
On Tuesday night, Pachaiyappan allegedly went to his wife’s residence in an intoxicated condition. A heated argument reportedly broke out between the two, during which Durga is said to have tied a cloth around his neck and dragged him out of the house.
Pachaiyappan collapsed at the spot and died. Durga later surrendered before the Mangalam police.Police rushed to the scene, recovered the body and sent it to the Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
