Election Flying Squad officials seized 10 dummy AK-47 rifles during a late-night vehicle inspection in Ashok Nagar under the T. Nagar Assembly constituency as part of intensified poll surveillance. The inspection was carried out to prevent political parties from influencing voters through cash or gifts.
During the check, a van was intercepted on 2nd Avenue, and the presence of rifles inside initially shocked officials. Upon closer examination, the weapons were found to be dummy rifles used for film shooting purposes. The van driver, Mahendran, was taken to the Ashok Nagar police station for inquiry.
Investigations revealed that the rifles had been used in a film project associated with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and were being transported to a shop in Vadapalani after the shoot. After verifying valid documents for the props, officials returned the rifles and allowed the driver to proceed.
