The 50th memorial of educationist Amanullah, who devoted himself to the welfare of economically disadvantaged students by conducting special classes at Old Ayakudi nearly 55 years ago, was observed at the Government High School, Old Ayakudi.
The programme was organised by the Amanullah Memorial Welfare Association.
Several of Amanullah’s former students, who have served in senior positions across various sectors and are now retired, participated in the event and paid tribute to their teacher.
Headmistress Silambu Selvi presided over the function. Cash awards were presented to the top three students who secured the highest marks in the Class 10 public examinations during the previous academic year. School uniforms and large notebooks were also distributed to economically disadvantaged students.
The Association also donated ₹15,000 towards the school’s Patron’s Fund.
Former Member of Parliament Raja Ravivarma, former Bharat Petroleum General Manager Thangavel, former UCO Bank Assistant General Manager Kulandhaivel, former State Bank Manager Balachandran, former Indian Bank Senior Manager Srinivasan, former Railway official Aasaithambi, Balasubramanian, former Transport Conductor Loganathan, Abdul Majeed and several other retired senior officials addressed the gathering.
Amanullah’s family members, school students, teachers and members of the public participated in large numbers. Madhavi proposed the vote of thanks.
