A tragic incident occurred in Pondalapalli village of Nagar Kurnool district yesterday, when a 65-year-old man choked to death after a piece of mutton got stuck in his throat.
According to police, construction workers were engaged in laying the foundation for a new house in the village. After the work was completed, the workers were served mutton curry and invited Lakshmanaiah (65), who lived nearby, to join them.
At the time, Lakshmanaiah—who was reportedly intoxicated—swallowed a chunk of mutton in haste, causing it to lodge in his throat and block his airway. He collapsed immediately, gasping for breath.
Villagers rushed him to the local government hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, stating that the obstruction in his windpipe had caused suffocation.
Police have registered a case and are investigating. The incident has created shock in the locality.
