A tragic incident occurred in the Mathur area near Manali, Chennai, where an elderly man who was trampled by a cow a few days ago succumbed to his injuries today.
The victim, Anandan, was walking along the street when a roaming cow suddenly attacked and trampled him. He fell to the ground with severe injuries. Neighbours rushed to his aid and admitted him to a nearby hospital.
Despite undergoing treatment for several days, Anandan died this morning without responding to treatment.
Following the incident, Chennai Corporation staff conducted an operation in the Mathur area to catch stray cattle roaming freely on the roads.
During the drive, cattle owners confronted corporation employees, resulting in a heated argument.
Corporation officials said that although a fine of Rs 10,000 has been imposed on cattle owners who allow their cows to roam on public roads, many continue to ignore the rules and let their animals wander, risking public safety.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns among residents about the growing menace of stray cattle in the city and the need for stricter enforcement of regulations.
