A 73-year-old woman from Kerala has won widespread praise after confronting a scooter rider who drove along a pedestrian footpath in Kozhikode district.
Prabhavathi Amma was walking along the footpath at Orkattupalam in Kozhikode to purchase household items when a man rode his scooter onto the pavement.
When she objected, the rider allegedly asked her to move aside instead of questioning him.
Refusing to yield, Prabhavathi Amma reportedly asked the rider where pedestrians were expected to walk if vehicles occupied the footpath, asserting that pavements are meant for walkers and roads for vehicles. When the rider retorted angrily, questioning her authority, the exchange was captured on video and later went viral on social media.
The footage drew widespread appreciation for the elderly woman’s firm stand against traffic violations, with many hailing her courage and civic sense.
Following the incident, officials from the Kerala Motor Vehicles Department visited Prabhavathi Amma at her residence, honoured her with a shawl and commended her for upholding road safety norms.
Authorities also suspended the rider’s driving licence for violating traffic rules.
