The Election Commission has announced special arrangements for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, including setting up a polling booth for just five voters in the remote Varusanadu hills.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that a total of 75,032 polling stations will be established across the State for the elections scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 23 for all 234 constituencies.
As part of efforts to ensure that every voter can exercise their franchise, election officials will travel nearly three hours to the Vellimalai area in the Varusanadu hills to set up a polling booth for five voters. The Election Commission has also announced that mobile phone deposit centres will be set up outside polling stations so that voters can safely leave their devices before entering the booths.
Wheelchair facilities will be provided at all polling stations to assist differently-abled voters, the Election Commission said.
