Election festival spirit builds as poll preparedness reviewed in Coimbatore

A comprehensive review meeting on election preparedness for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections was held at the Coimbatore District Collectorate in the presence of Election Observers and senior officials.
District Election Officer and Collector Pawan Kumar G. Giriyappanavar chaired the meeting along with General Observers Sunil Kumar Yadav, Krishna Aditya, Pranjal Yadav, Sanjay Kumar and Yashendra Singh. Expenditure Observers including Sachin Kumar Singh, Ram Sekhawat, Rohini, Vikash Singh, Priyanka Dhar, Piyush Shukla and Sridhar Tora, along with Police Observer Sudhirkumar Borika, also
participated.
The meeting reviewed poll preparedness across 10 Assembly constituencies including Mettupalayam, Sulur, Kaundampalayam, Coimbatore North, Thondamuthur, Coimbatore South, Singanallur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi and Valparai.
Key aspects discussed included implementation of Election Commission guidelines, monitoring of candidate expenditure, scrutiny of political advertisements, nomination procedures, seizures during vehicle checks, control room operations, media certification, EVM allocation, postal voting, polling staff training, basic facilities at booths, counting centre arrangements, complaint redressal and security at sensitive locations. Officials emphasised strict adherence to norms and effective voter awareness campaigns to ensure maximum participation.
In a separate interaction with recognised political party representatives, candidates were advised to maintain transparent expense accounts and cooperate to achieve high voter turnout.
The Collector also demonstrated the functioning of Electronic Voting Machines. Election Observers later inspected the Media Monitoring Centre and Election Control Room.
