AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has appointed Leema Rose Martin as Joint Secretary of the party’s Women’s Wing, days after she joined the party.
Leema Rose Martin, wife of lottery businessman Martin, had served for 14 years in the Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi and held the post of State Joint General Secretary. She announced her resignation recently, citing lack of due recognition for her work and unpleasant experiences within the party.
She formally joined the AIADMK on February 17 in the presence of senior leaders. Within days of her induction, the party leadership entrusted her with the key organisational responsibility in the Women’s Wing, signalling an effort to strengthen the party’s outreach among women cadres.
Her induction assumes political significance as her son, Jose Charles Martin, floated a new political party, the Lakshya Jananayaga Katchi, in Puducherry last year.
Party sources said the appointment reflects the AIADMK’s strategy to expand its base by bringing in leaders with organisational experience from other parties
