Tension prevailed near Marakkanam in Villupuram district after supporters of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam leader Vijay climbed onto his campaign vehicle, creating a commotion on Saturday.
Vijay was on his way from Neelankarai to Puducherry to campaign in support of party candidates when the incident occurred. Despite instructions from the party leadership not to follow his vehicle, a group of enthusiastic supporters surrounded the car and climbed onto it.
Eyewitnesses said some of them even engaged in unruly behaviour, including climbing over the vehicle and causing disruption. One individual was seen kissing the windshield, adding to the chaos.
Security personnel accompanying Vijay intervened and attempted to remove the supporters from the vehicle to restore order.
The incident caused a stir in the area, raising concerns over crowd management during campaign movements. Vijay is scheduled to campaign at multiple locations in Puducherry, including Thattanchavadi, Cuddalore Road and Thavalakuppam.
