An auto driver, Chandrashekhar, set his son’s motorcycle on fire in Visakhapatnam after repeated instances of reckless riding and traffic violations, police said.
Chandrashekhar, who has two sons, had purchased a new bike worth over Rs. 1 lakh on instalments last year for his elder son, a college student, after persistent requests.
However, the boy’s behaviour reportedly changed after getting the vehicle, with frequent long rides, overspeeding and repeated traffic rule violations leading to multiple fines being issued to his father’s mobile number.
The situation worsened when the youth met with an accident due to rash driving, sustaining serious injuries. Chandrashekhar spent nearly Rs. 1 lakh on medical treatment and an additional Rs. 20,000 on repairing the damaged bike.
Despite recovery, the son allegedly continued his reckless behaviour, angering the father. On Monday, Chandrashekhar took the bike to an open field, poured petrol on it and set it ablaze.
Pendurthi police initiated an investigation into the incident.
