A 22-year-old woman, Sawdeswari, who had married against her family’s wishes last month, was allegedly killed by her father in Andhra Pradesh’s Macherla, police said.
According to reports, Sawdeswari married on March 4 despite opposition from her family. Following her marriage, her father, Chandra Seenu, filed a missing complaint at the Macherla police station. She was traced by police on March 15 and was subsequently handed over to her parents.
Within three days of returning home, Sawdeswari died under suspicious circumstances. Her family initially claimed that she had died by suicide. However, the post-mortem report revealed that she died due to suffocation, allegedly after being smothered with a pillow.
Based on the findings, police arrested Chandra Seenu and a relative in connection with the death.
Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that a police inspector may have accepted a bribe to support the family. It has also been reported that a significant amount of money was withdrawn from the family’s bank account around the same time.
Authorities said that a criminal case will be registered against the concerned police official if evidence confirms involvement or misconduct in the case.
