A worker was killed in a blast at the Chinnathambi firecracker factory in Othayal village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Saturday.
The explosion occurred suddenly at the factory, triggering panic in the area. On receiving information, fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and began efforts to bring the situation under control.
Repeated explosions and the scattering of firecracker materials hampered the rescue and firefighting operations.
The deceased worker has been identified as Madasamy.
The incident has caused shock in the region, coming just days after three workers were killed in a firecracker factory explosion on September 3.
