A video showing a rowdy-sheeter celebrating his birthday inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Jail has gone viral, sparking outrage and prompting the Karnataka Prison Department to order an inquiry into the incident.
The footage, which surfaced on social media, shows the inmate cutting a birthday cake surrounded by other prisoners inside the high-security facility. According to officials, the celebration reportedly took place inside one of the prison barracks, raising serious questions about lax supervision and the unauthorized use of mobile phones inside the jail.
This is not the first time that Parappana Agrahara Central Jail has made headlines for violations. In previous years, reports had surfaced of certain high-profile inmates, including former minister G. Janardhana Reddy and actor Darshan, allegedly receiving special treatment during their stay. Such repeated breaches have drawn criticism over the administration’s ability to maintain discipline and enforce jail regulations.
Responding to the latest controversy, Karnataka Prisons ADGP B. Dayananda confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway. “We have ordered an inquiry into the incident, and strict action will be taken against the officials and inmates involved,” he said.
The viral video has reignited the debate over corruption and irregularities within Karnataka’s prison system. Rights activists and the public have demanded tighter surveillance, regular inspections, and the installation of more advanced monitoring systems to prevent such misconduct in the future.
