Five-Tons sugarcane chariot stuns visitors

A massive chariot crafted entirely from sugarcane and weighing nearly five tons has become a major attraction near Kanchipuram during the Pongal celebrations this year.
Senthilkumar, a farmer from Kundukulam village near Kanchipuram, has been creating awareness about farmers and their produce by making traditional Pongal-themed structures every year. In the past, he has designed Pongal pots and Jallikattu bull models using farm produce to highlight agrarian traditions.
This year, as part of the Pongal festivities, he constructed a towering chariot using red sugarcane to encourage people to buy and use sugarcane cultivated by local farmers.
The structure stands about 21 feet high and 10 feet wide, and has been designed in the form of a traditional temple chariot.
The wheels and upper portions of the chariot have been artistically fashioned using red clay, giving it a strikingly realistic appearance. The lifelike design has drawn large numbers of visitors, many of whom pause in amazement at the craftsmanship.
Senthilkumar said the chariot was created not only to recall ancestral traditions but also to spread awareness about the importance of supporting farmers by choosing their produce.
The sugarcane chariot has been put on public display for ten days, allowing people from nearby areas to view it up close.
