On the occasion of Social Justice Day, marking the 147th birth anniversary of Thanthai Periyar, Kottayam District Collector Chetan Kumar Meena, IAS, today paid floral tributes at the Thanthai Periyar Memorial in Vaikom, Kerala.
The tribute event was organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Tamil Nadu. After placing flowers at Periyar’s statue, the Collector also visited the memorial premises.
According to organisers, among those present were Additional Collector Srijith, Palai Revenue Divisional Officer Deepa K.P., Vaikom Municipality Chairperson Preetha Rajesh, Municipal Councilor Rajasekharan, Tahsildar Vipin Baskaran, and Coimbatore District Information and Public Relations Officer A. Senthil Anna, along with several other dignitaries.
Speaking to reporters, Collector Chetan Kumar Meena said:
“Thanthai Periyar laid down principles of self-respect, rationality, equality, social justice, racial rights, and women’s rights. He fought vigorously for women’s liberation and achieved remarkable success. The path he created continues to serve as a shield for women and the oppressed. On this Social Justice Day, marking his 147th birth anniversary, I extend my greetings. It is an honor to have paid homage at his statue on such a significant occasion.”
