A shocking case of negligence has surfaced in Government Middle School, Hullpur, located in the Vijaypur block of Sheopur district, where students were served food on newspaper sheets under the Midday Meal Scheme.
A video of the incident, showing students eating their lunch on pieces of old newspapers, quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism from parents and the public over the lack of hygiene and monitoring in school meal distribution.
Taking serious note of the issue, Sheopur District Collector ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident. The investigation confirmed that midday meals were indeed served on newspapers, violating food safety and hygiene norms.
Following the probe, the district nutrition officer responsible for overseeing the meal program was removed from duty, and a show-cause notice was issued to the school principal seeking an explanation for the lapse.
Officials said all headmasters and school administrators in the district have been instructed to strictly follow food safety guidelines and ensure hygienic serving of meals to students.
District authorities have also directed block education officers to intensify inspections and submit weekly reports on midday meal implementation to prevent similar lapses in future.
